Here is a great read that I just came across from http://topbeautybrands.com/top-5-summer-beauty-tips/
Girls, Summer’s just around the corner and that means we’re about to get hit with some serious dehydration, skin damage and disgustingly clogged pores
If this winter was any indication, we’re probably in for a long, hot and nasty one when it comes to keeping ourselves looking beautiful.
So to help you guys get ready for the heat in 2012, we thought we’d let you in on a couple of Summer beauty tips to keep you looking amazing throughout those hot, hot months.
5. Start Using A Face Cream With SPF
If you don’t already have this, you MUST get a face cream that contains SPF ingredients. Because our face is constantly in the sun, over time that can result in the formation of fine lines and wrinkles as well as just general overall skin damage.
The only rule there is to stick to when buying a face cream with SPF, is the higher the better.
Neutrogena does an amazing job with their Age Shield Face Lotion which contains SPF 110. As far as protection from the sun goes, that’s about as high as it gets.
The price is relatively cheap at less then $10, so it’s even accessible for those of us on the smallest of budgets
4. Harness The Power Of Salt Water…But Don’t Overdo It!
Sea salt is an amazing exfoliator and definitely something you should be taking advantage of if you live near the ocean. Tests have proven we only need to submerge ourselves for 5 minutes to get the full effect of salt water.
These effects include but aren’t limited to:
- The ability to open our pores and allow in valuable nutrients
- An increase in moisture retention
- Promotion of cellular regeneration(helps your skin build new cells)
But it’s not all good news. Too much salt water, combined with too much sun, can results in dehydration. The first place where the effects of salt dehydration can be seen, is of course our hair.
Make sure you don’t spend more then 30 minutes at a time submerged in salt water and always wash your hair with fresh water immediately after getting out.
3. Focus On Shimmer When It Comes To Makeup
This is one you probably already know, but instead of using a heavy foundation, why not try out a light, shimmering powder to bring out that lovely looking glow.
Try incorporating in a powder bronzer to bring out the full effect of your new tan, applying a matte finish to your face, before using a shimmer on your cheekbones, eyelids, collarbone and shoulders.
Maybelline have a nice powder bronzer that’s unbelievably cheap for what it offers at just over $10. You’ll be amazed at how effective making this one change will be and at the same time it’s light, so it’s perfect for Summer.
2. Harnessing The Power Of…Lemons
If you want to save yourself a bunch of money on expensive salon highlights, then all you need to do is brush some lemon juice through your hair in the morning before you go out.
I know it sounds disgusting, but it honestly works wonders and helps you achieve that natural “outdoorsy”, glowing look. Combined with a nice tan, nothing beats those summer streaks and the boys will love it!
Just one thing, make sure you wash your hair before going to bed so you don’t end up bleaching your bedsheets!
1. God’s Miracle: Vitamin D
Okay that was a little over-dramatic for our number one Summer beauty tip, but we can’t stress to you enough how important Vitamin D is for our bodies.
Here’s some of the benefits of Vitamin D in relation to keeping us looking beautiful:
- It improves the elasticity of our skin and hair.
- Helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
- Corrects any damage that was brought on from too much sun.
You see, even though the sun can cause damage to our skin, it makes up for it by giving you a bunch of Vitamin D to help replenish lost skin cells.
It’s not all good news…
Did you know that there are in fact two types of Vitamin D and the one we need is D3? That’s right and unless you’re getting direct sunlight(clouds and sunscreen prevent D3 absorption), you’re not soaking up the Vitamin D3 that your bodies needs for to get the benefits mentioned above.
Make sure you attempt to get at least 15 minutes of direct sunlight/day, which should be sufficient time to soak up your daily requirement of Vitamin D.
That’s it for our top 5 Summer beauty tips. If there’s any you think we’ve missed, please feel free to send us a comment below with your suggestions and we’ll get back to you soon as possible.
